I saw this fierce-looking face on the corner of the roof of a house in Bangalore, perhaps to ward off evil and/or protection.

Yes. it is to ward off evil, but I don’t often see these at the corner of the roof. they keep it towards the middle of the parapet. 🙂
The one across the street from this one was also in a corner.
